A son was going out to hunt for the first time. He went to his Father who is a fierce hunter and said “Father what do I need to succeed against my prey? His Father handed him a firearm and bow, ammunition, and arrows. He handed him his best hunting gear, safety equipment and a set of navigation tools. The son looks at his father and says, “I don’t think I will need the navigation tools”, I know the grounds well! The Father looked back at his son and responded. “Well, son in case you venture out too far and your surroundings become a little bit unfamiliar. I have given you all that you need to survive and make your way back home.
This narrative serves as a powerful reminder of God’s unwavering provision and the trust we should place in His preparations when we answer the call to serve in ministry. Like the father equips his son for the hunt, God equips individuals to embrace their unique calling and navigate the challenges inherent in ministry.
In this story, the father’s role symbolizes the crucial aspects of mentorship and guidance, offering not just tools but also profound wisdom and knowledge. The weapons and equipment he provides represent the spiritual gifts and thorough preparation that God bestows upon those He calls. Just as the son initially hesitates about the navigation tools, we may sometimes become complacent or self-assured. Yet, God would remain steadfast in providing us with the divine guidance we need. He will never send you to fight giants without preparing you for battle. David had a stone and a slingshot, in like manner. He will give you all that you need to succeed.
So, I encourage you to step out boldly into what He has placed on your heart. Pray fervently for His guidance and ask for the Holy Spirit’s steadfast direction in your journey of service. Trust in God’s preparation, for He faithfully equips those He calls for the tasks He assigns.
Scripture
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

This verse emphasizes the importance of trusting in God’s guidance and submitting to His will, just as the son trusted his father’s preparation and guidance for the hunt. It’s a reminder that when individuals are called to ministry, they should rely on God’s wisdom and direction rather than solely on their own understanding, just as the son was encouraged to trust in his father’s provisions and guidance.
Prayer

As I set out on this journey of answering your call to ministry, I come before you with a heart filled with both excitement and humility. Just like the son who sought his father’s guidance for a hunt, I seek your guidance and provision in this new chapter of my life.
Thank you for the spiritual gifts and tools you have bestowed upon me, tailor-made for the mission and purpose you have called me to fulfil. I acknowledge that I need your wisdom, your strength, and your divine direction to navigate the challenges and responsibilities of ministry.
Lord, I submit myself to your will and place my trust in your unfailing guidance. Help me to lean not on my own understanding but to trust in your wisdom and your plan for my life. Just as the son trusted his father’s preparations, I trust in your provision for me in every aspect of my ministry.
Grant me discernment like the navigation tools the son received, so that I may find my way when the path becomes less familiar. Open my eyes to see the opportunities for service and the needs of those I am called to minister to.
Lord, I know that this journey will have its trials and uncertainties, but I place my faith in your love and guidance. Make my paths straight, O Lord, and lead me toward your purposes.
I pray for the strength to serve with humility, compassion, and love. May my ministry ultimately bring glory to your name and bring light and hope to those I serve.
